Before and after pictures of the Santa Rosa after a fire went through Oct. 9, 2017 Credit: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/10/10/us/california-fires-maps-photos.html At the moment, millions of dollars have gone up in smoke, literally. Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Arizona, Idaho, Montana, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming are all on fire. Due to poor management, grasslands and forests kept growing, leading to massive amounts of dead, dry underbrush. This underbrush is perfect for a fire, plenty of fuel to get hot and fast. A while back I found an interesting article about getting your cows to calve during the day. It was a study done by Kansas State University and the article was published by Beef Producer. The study focused on feeding cattle in the evening so they calved during the day. It was interesting because the results found that a majority of the cattle did end up calving during the day. Although the exact reason why this happens is unknown, the researchers thought it may have to do with contractions in the rumen. It was interesting to me that if we could get a...
